Artem Markelov produced another attacking drive to finish eighth and score four points in the F2 feature event at Red Bull Ring, having started 14th on the grid! Unfortunately, team mate Luca Ghiotto suffered another problematic pit stop that saw him classified 14th. Luca had earlier been fighting with the DAMS cars that ultimately finished second and fourth.
The race produced a third feature race win for Charles Leclerc, ahead of Nicholas Latifi and Prema team mate Antonio Fuoco.
Artem Markelov: «On the first lap Boschung put me on the grass, which damaged my front wing and meant I suffered a bit more degradation than I would have done. But I kept fighting and was up into the top 10 after four laps. I pitted for the option tyres with nine of the 40 laps to go and managed to close down Boschung again. I tried hard to pass him before my option tyres started to drop off, but couldn't quite do it. On the plus side, eighth gives me the sprint race pole position tomorow and I will be doing everything to make full use of that opportunity.»
Luca Ghiotto: «That was a frustrating race. I made a decent start and was fighting with Rowland in the early laps. We were on the opposite strategy to Artem, starting on the option tyre, but I had a problem when I went onto the prime tyres and stalled the car leaving the pits. We need to look at the data but I think it was 90% my fault. That cost me the chance of a potential podium because I'm sure that the pace was strong enough to achieve that today.»
Svetlana Strelnikova (Team principal): «That was a typical fighting race from Artem and rewarded with points and the pole position for the sprint race, which gives him a real chance to salvage strong points from a difficult weekend so far – he never gives up! Poor Luca had problems in the pits for the second successive race but also fought hard, passing Sette Camara, Deletraz and Canamasas in the closing laps, even though there were no points to be had.»
