Artem Markelov started his 2016 GP2 campaign with a fighting fourth place at Circuit de Catalunya in a race shortened by two Safety car interventions. Team mate Raffaele Marciello suffered the frustration of being punted into the gravel on the last lap but, still classified eighth, will start from pole position in Sunday's reverse grid race.

Russian Time driver Artem Markelov (1m29.129s) will start the opening round of the 2016 GP2 championship ninth on the grid after a qualifying session that the young Russian felt did not reflect the team's true pace. New Italian team mate Raffaele Marciello (1m29.274s) starts 12th after some issues of his own. Pole position was claimed by French Red Bull driver Pierre Gasly (1m27.807s).
